Population

According to Statistics Sierra Leone’s 2021 Digital Mid-Term Census, the total population for Sierra Leone is estimated at 7,541,641 million of which 3,825,378 million (51 percent) are female whilst 3,716,263 million (49 percent) are male. The majority of the Sierra Leone’s population comprises of youth and children.

 

Sierra Leone Flag

The Flag is made up of three colors; green, white, and blue. The green represents resources, mainly its agriculture. The white represents unity and justice. The blue represents the coast of Freetown.

 

Physical

The coastal Guinean mangroves, eastern mountains, upland plateaus, and wooded hill country make up Sierra Leone's four geographical regions. ?The lowest point of Sierra Leone is its coastline, which is zero meters above sea level, but its highest point is a mountain named Mount Bintumani, which is 1,945 meters above sea level.


Climate/Environmental Issues

The average temperature in Sierra Leone is 81°F. Sierra Leone has a dry season starting around November to April and a rainy season from May to October. There are variations depending the region of the country.

 

Sierra Leone is considered as one of the most vulnerable countries in the world in term of climate change issues.

 

Sierra Leone is a country that suffers from deforestation (cutting down forests), degradation (loss of density of vegetation), and land and water pollution. This has led to flooding and mudslides in some part of the country in recent times.

 

Major Landmarks

Sierra Leone has iconic landmarks including the Loma Mountains, Tiwai Island, Lake Sonfon, the Gola Forest, Sie, Banana Island and Tingi Hills Forest Reserve.

 

Religion

Sierra Leone is a religiously tolerant country with the two major religions being Islam and Christianity. There is no official religious affiliation in Sierra Leone but it is an acceptable practice for official programmes to commence with Muslim and Christian prayers.
