KENEMA DISTRICT
Kenema district is in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone and Kenema City is the district headquarter town, and is also the most populated District in the country according to the Mid-Term population and housing census 2021.
The District of Kenema borders Bo District to the west, the Republic of Liberia to the southeast, Tonkolili District and Kono District to the north, Kailahun District to the east, and Pujehun District to the southwest.
Councils: Kenema district has two councils, Kenema District Council headed by a Chairperson and Kenema City Council headed by a Mayor. Kenema District Council is constituted of 18 wards ranging from Ward 055 to 072, and are headed by Ward Councillors.
Chiefdoms: Kenema District has 16 Chiefdoms headed by paramount Chiefs: Dama, Dodo, Gaura, Gorama Mende, Kandu Leppiam, Koya, Langurama Ya, Lower Bambara, Malegohun, Niawa, Nomo, Nongowa, Simbaru, Small Bo, Tunkia, Wando.
Constituencies: Kenema Kenema District has 10 Constituencies ranging from constituency 011 to 021.
Ethnicity: The district is ethnically diverse with the Mendes make up the largest ethnic group.
Economic Activities: Kenema city is the centre of the Alluvial Diamond Mining and timber production in Sierra Leone. The district is also known for the production of cocoa, coffee, palm oil and kernels.
Education: Kenema District has 944 Schools: 108 Pre-primary Schools; 664 Primary Schools; 125 Junior Secondary Schools and 47 Senior Secondary Schools.
