WESTERN AREA URBAN DISTRICT
The Western Area Urban District is the most populated region in Sierra Leone and home to the capital city Freetown. The City is divided into the Eastern, Central, and Western.
Council: The local council is the Freetown City Council which is headed by a Mayor and assisted by a Deputy Mayor. The Freetown City Council has 48 wards ranging from Ward 399 to 446 with each Ward represented by a Councillor in the 48 ward committees.
Constituencies: Western Area Urban District has 18 Constituencies ranging from Constituency 114 to 132
Ethnicity: The Western Area Urban District is the most ethnically diverse in Sierra Leone, as it is home to almost every ethnic group. The Krio are the indigenes of the district.
Economic Activities: The Western Area Urban District is the commercial centre of Sierra Leone with a mixed economy of trade, services, finance, and small and medium-scale enterprises. The district is also the seat of the country's central government.
Education: Western Area Urban has 1,782 Schools: 529 Pre-primary Schools; 803 Primary Schools; 287 Junior Secondary Schools and 163 Senior Secondary Schools.
