BOMBALI DISTRICT
Bombali District is a district in the Northern Province and the second largest district in Sierra Leone by area. Makeni City is the district Headquarter town and second most populous town in the northern region of Sierra Leone.
Councils: There are two local councils in the district as follows: The Bombali District Council and the Makeni City Council. The Mayor is the head of the City Council and the Chairperson is the head of the District Council. Makeni City Council has 16 elected councillors and three Multi-Member wards. The District Council has 24 elected councillors. The wards in Bombali district ranges from Ward 100 to 123.
Chiefdoms: The district of Bombali has 13 chiefdoms administered by Paramount chiefs as follows: Bombali Sebora, Bombali Siaray, Makari, Gbanti, Paki Masabong, Safroko Limba, Biriwa Limba, Gbendembu, Ngowahun, Magbaiamba-Ndowahun, Kamaranka, and Mara.
Constituencies: Bombali district has 8 constituencies represented by members of Parliament ranging from constituency 31 to 38 respectively.
Ethnicity: The population of Bombali District is ethnically diverse, although the Themne and Limba are the two largest ethnic groups.
Economic Activities: Agricultural activities such as rice, cashew, ground nut and cassava cultivation and vegetables. In addition, the operation of ADAX Bio Energy project partly within the district is also another means of economic viability in the agriculture sector. Gold mining and small scale businesses also form part of economic activities within the district.
Education: Bombali District has 628 schools; 91 pre-primaries, 378 primaries, 114 Junior Secondary and 45 Senior Secondary.
