FALABA DISTRICT
Falaba District is a district in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone which was created in 2016 by an act of Parliament as it was initially part of Koinadugu district. The district headquarter town in Mongo Bendugu. Although Falaba District is one of the largest Districts in Sierra Leone in land area, it is also one of the least populated districts in the country. Falaba District borders Koinadugu District, Bombali District, and the Republic of Guinea.
Councils: The Falaba District Council is headed by a Chairperson and assisted by a Deputy Chairperson. The Council has 18 elected Councillors and 18 Wards. The electoral wards in the Falaba District are Wards 124 to 141.
Constituencies: Falaba district has 4(four) constituencies represented by members of Parliament which are Constituency 039 to 042 respectively
Chiefdoms: The Falaba District has 13 (thirteen) chiefdoms administered by Paramount chiefs as follows: Neya, Nyedu, Kulor-Seradu, Mongo, Seradu, Morifindugu, Delemandugu, Sulima, Kabelia, Folasaba-Kamba, Dembelia Musaia, Dembelia Sikunia, Kamadugu-Yiraia.
Ethnicity: The Yalunkas are the largest population in Falaba district but there are significant other ethnic groups in the district includes: Kuranko, Fullahs and Mandingos.
Economic Activities: Rice production, vegetable farming and livestock are the main economic activities in Falaba District Gold mining and timber logging are also traditional economic activities within the district.
Education: Currently, Falaba district has 247 schools:10 pre-primary schools; 210 primary schools; 21 Junior Secondary Schools and 6 Senior Secondary Schools.
