BO DISTRICT
Bo District is located in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone and it is also the district headquarter town. It is the second most populous district according to the 2021 Mid-Term population and housing census.
Bo District borders with other districts such as Kenema to the east, Tonkolili to the north, Moyamba to the west, Bonthe to the southwest and Pujehun to the south.
Councils: There are two local councils in Bo District; Bo District Council headed by a district Chairperson and Bo City Council headed by a Mayor. The Bo District council has 42 wards, Ward 264 to 305. Each Ward is represented by a Councillor in a 42 ward committees.
Chiefdoms: Bo District has 16 Chiefdoms, which are administered by Paramount Chiefs. They are as follows: Badjia; Bagbo; Bagbwe; Baoma; Bumpe Ngao; Gbo; Jaiama; Bongor; Kakua; Komboya; Lugbu; Niawa Lenga; Selenga; Tikonko; Valunia; Wonde
Constituencies: Bo District has 11 constituencies ranging from constituency 078 to 088.
Ethnicity: The Mendes account for an estimated 60% of the population of Bo district and the rest is consisted of small ethnic groups such as: Themnes, Madingos, Fullah, Sherbro and Gissi.
Economic Activities: The major economic activities are trading in Gold and Diamond and agricultural production in Rice, Coffee, Cacao and Oil Palm.
Education: Bo District has 1,019 Schools. 154 Pre-primary Schools, 686 Primary Schools, 132 Junior Secondary Schools, 47 Senior Secondary Schools and one University; Njala University Bo Campus.
