MINSTRY OF DEFENCE (MOD)
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate strategic defence policy for the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). MOD act as the link between the military between other Governments, Departments and Agencies and ensures that the Military has the ability to protect the country from external attacks as well as from internal threats.
The Minister is the political head of the Ministry and is assisted by a Deputy Minister. The Director General is the head of Administration of the Ministry.
MOD has the following directorates: Military Operations; Defence Intelligence and Security; Communication Information System; Peace Keeping Operations; Public Relations; Gender and Equal Opportunity; Defence Logistics; Defence Estate; Defence Personnel and Military Secretary Defence Training and Education. The Ministry provides oversight for the Sierra Leone Armed Forces which includes: Joint Force Command, Brigades, Air Wing, Maritime and Equipment. The Chief of Defence staff has direct responsibility for the command, control and administration of the RSLAF.
