MINSTRY OF DEFENCE (MOD)
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is responsible to formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate strategic defence policy for the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and acts as the link between the military and other Government Departments and Agencies to ensure that the Military has the ability to protect the country from external attacks as well as from internal threats.
The Deputy Minister is the political head whilst the professional Head is the Chief of Defence Staff and the Administrative Head is the Director General.
MOD has the following units: Military Operations; Defence Intelligence and Security; Communication Information System; Peace Keeping Operation; Public Relations; Gender and Equal Opportunity; Defence Logistics; Defence Estate; Defence Personnel and Military Secretary Defence Training and Education. The Ministry provides oversight for the Sierra Leone Armed Forces which includes: Joint Force Command, Brigades, Air Wing, Maritime and Equipment. The Chief of Defence Staff has direct responsibility for the command, control and administration of the RSLAF.
