MINSTRY OF ENERGY (MOE)
The main responsibility of the Ministry is to formulate and implement policies, projects, and programmes on energy and also provide oversight functions across the energy supply chain for all sub-sector agencies such as electricity production, transmission, distribution and supply, and other forms of energy supply and utilization. Electricity generation is the responsibility of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) whilst distribution and supply of electricity is the responsibility of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
Over the years, the Ministry had made the following progress; roll-out a Joint task force to clamp down on illegal abrasion of electricity, and pre-paid electricity metering systems replaced the tariff post-meter for accountability and transparency in electricity consumption by both the private and government agencies.
VISION
To create an enabling environment for the provision of modern energy services for increased productivity, wealth creation and improved quality of life for all Sierra Leoneans.
MISSION
Develop policies and programmes for the provision of energy (electrical and otherwise) in an adequate affordable and sustainable basis to the entire population of Sierra Leone.
INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE
The MoE is politically headed by the Minister and assisted by a Deputy Minister. On the other hand, the administrative head of the Ministry is the Permanent Secretary whilst the technical head of the directorate is the Director of Energy.
