MINSTRY OF INFORMATION AND CIVIL EDUCATION (MOICE)

MANDATE

Formulate appropriate policies, legislations and regulations for the information and Civic Education sectors.
Provide policy guidance and strategic direction on all matters concerning the media, access to public information, broadcasting, and postal service.
Develop suitable delivery plans for mass media and civic education in consultation with stakeholders.
Coordinate and liaise with MDAs, Local Councils, regional and international organizations and set up inter-ministerial and inter-sectoral committees on sector related matters.
Create an enabling and responsive policy environment for citizens and partners to access credible, factual information and leverages mass media, setting its standardsCreate an enabling and responsive policy environment for citizens and partners to access credible, factual information and leverages mass media, setting its standards—including through the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) including through the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC)—and ensuring dynamic two-way communication channels for citizen feedback.
Pioneer and shape the Civic Education standards by elevating civic engagement and unifying a brand narrative for Sierra Leone that resonates deeply with its people.
Coordinate and liaise with the private and public sector media institutions to promote the interest of government and ensure effective citizens engagement.
Facilitate and promote dissemination of credible information and civic education in Sierra Leone.
Represent the sector on the Boards of MDAs where decisions are taken.
Facilitate, network and attract local and foreign investment on information and civic education.

MISSION

To bridge the communication gap between government and citizens (Information Directorate) and
To provide the enabling environment that will foster informed and engaged citizens, thereby contributing to a more inclusive, responsible, and participatory society through civic engagement that contributes to the socio-economic development of the country (Civic Education Directorate).
