MINSTRY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND POLITICAL AFFAIRS (MOPAPA)
The Ministry of Political and Public Affairs (MPPA) is a peoples Ministry that serves as the conduit through which the Government and the Citizens of the Country communicate to each other with the view to addressing concerns that affect the general peace and development of the country. It has three core mandate that explains it policy objectives such as Popularising Government Policies and Programs, Deepening Democracy and Civic Education by bringing to the notice of government anything deemed as threat to the tranquillity, stability and security of the state.
These three core mandates explain the Policy objectives of the Ministry as outlined below.
Policy Objectives
- To serve as liaison between the Executive and Parliament;
- To monitor progress of the Executive’s legislation programmes in Parliament,
- To maintain contacts with the public, traditional rulers, political; interest and pressure groups in society;
- To identify issues of national concern as and when necessary and encourage public debates on such issues;
- To monitor public on political and other related matters vis-à-vis the performance of Government;
- To propagate the political programmes of Government;
- To liaise between Government and the public;
- To channel public complaints, appeals and representations to the Office of the President.
- To work in collaboration with Inter-Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations on issues of governance.
Mission: To develop policies and programmes geared towards promoting democracy and good governance in Sierra Leone through public and stakeholder’s participation in governance activities.
Vision: To foster an advance a well-structured socio-political and democratic culture that will serve as the engine for sustainable peace and socio-economic development in Sierra Leone.
The Ministry is headed by a Minister and a Deputy who are the Political Head, this is followed by the Permanent Secretary (PS) who is the Administrative head of the Ministry and the Director who is the head of the Professional/Technical Division. It also has staff across the regions.
