MINSTRY OF WORKS AND PUBLIC ASSETS (MOWPA)
The Ministry of Works and Public Assets is charged with the responsibility to design, co-ordinate and monitor the implementation of policies and programmes for the development of physical and social infrastructure (buildings, the road sector) and management of public assets.
Development of policies and programmes that improve public infrastructure including housing.
Plan, develop, supervise, and maintain policies and programmes for an economically effective and efficient road infrastructure.
Manage public works including Government buildings and residential quarters for public officers and maintenance of all public assets.
Promote and regulate standards in the construction industry

Objectives of the Ministry

To develop appropriate policies and programmes for a safe, reliable and sustainable national road network for the enhancement of economic growth and development.

The Ministry consists of two main components
1. Administrative Wing headed by the Permanent Secretary (PS)
The Administrative Wing provides advisory services and managerial support to the Ministry for the formulation and implementation of programmes. The Ministry has constituted a Change Management team to move forward the reform process, especially the recommendations contained in the Management and Functional Review Report of the Ministry.
2. Professional Wing headed by the Chief Director (before then entitled as Professional Head)
The professional Head provides technical advice, coordinate and supervise the development and review of policies, programmes and strategies relating to Works and Public Assets and Supervise and Coordinate the staff activities of the Professional Wing of the Ministry for efficient and effective service delivery.
The Ministry is headed by the Minister who is assisted by a Deputy Minister. The main objective of the Minister and the Deputy Minister is to drive and implement the President’s vision relating to Infrastructure and Economic Competitiveness as outlined under cluster 3 of the (Medium Term National Development Plan) MTNDP.
