MINSTRY OF TRANSPORT AND AVIATION (MTA)
The Ministry of Transport and Aviation is responsible for ensuring safe and reliable transport systems in Sierra Leone. The Ministry exercises authority over the three main modes of transportation, namely: Road, Marine and Air transportation.
While all these modes are regulated by statutory bodies, the Ministry maintains oversight over policy deployment and implementation over the various autonomous and semi-autonomous parastatals established in the Transport Sector as follows:
Aviation/Air
Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA)
Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA)
Sea/Marine
Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA)
Sierra Leone Ports Authority and Harbours (SLPHA)
Sierra Leone National Shipping Company (SLNSC)
Road/Land
Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA)
Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA)
Over the years, the Ministry have made the following achievements; established a National Fleet Management Policy, rolled out a vehicle loan scheme to public worker, constructed a modern Airport that meets International Standards at Lungi, secured funding for the transformation of the Urban transit system in Freetown, successfully procured needed vehicles for government services, established a technical wing at the Ministry of Transport for the first time ever to enhance service delivery and established a workflow process geared towards synchronizing the activities of the agencies that are within the purview of the Ministry.
In the last ten years, investment in the sector is estimated as $ 373 million on development programs in the country: MTNDP.

To build a resilient and sustainable transport sector that contributes to the socio-economic growth, international competitiveness, and human capital development of Sierra Leone.
MISSION
To develop strategic policies and provide policy guidelines for the delivery of safe, secured, reliable, affordable, sustainable, and resilient maritime, land and aviation transportation systems throughout Sierra Leone.
INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE
The Ministry is headed by the Minister who is ably assisted by his Deputy Minister whilst the Permanent Secretary is the head of administration
