MINSTRY OF TRANSPORT AND AVIATION (MTA)
The Ministry of Transport and Aviation is responsible for ensuring safe and reliable transport systems in Sierra Leone. The Ministry exercises authority over the three main modes of transportation Road, Marine and Air transportation.
While all these modes are regulated by statutory bodies, the Ministry maintains oversight over policy development and implementation over the various autonomous and semi-autonomous parastatals established in the Transport Sector namely:
Aviation/Air
Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA)
Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA)
Sea/Marine
Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA)
Sierra Leone Ports Authority (SLPA)
Sierra Leone National Shipping Company (SLNSC)
Road/Land
Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA)
Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC)
Over the years, the Ministry have made the following achievements; established a National Fleet Management Policy, rolled out a vehicle loan scheme to public worker, secured funding for the transformation of the Urban transit system in Freetown, successfully procured needed vehicles for government services, established a technical wing at the ministry of Transport for the first time ever to enhance service delivery and established a workflow process geared towards synchronizing the activities of the agencies that are within the purview of the Ministry.
In the last ten years, Development partner’s disbursements to the Ministry is estimated as $ 20.32 million to the sector in Cluster 2 of the MTNDP.

A resilient sustainable transport sector that contributes to socio-economic growth, international competitiveness and human capital development of Sierra Leone.
MISSION
To develop strategic policies and provide policy guidelines for the delivery of safe, secured, reliable, affordable, sustainable resilient maritime, land and aviation transport systems throughout Sierra Leone.
INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE
The Ministry is headed by the Minister who is ably assisted by his Deputy Minister whilst the Permanent Secretary is the head of administration. The professional Head is in charge of Technical issues of the sector.
