MINSTRY OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY (MTI)
The Ministry of Trade (MTI) is mandated to develop policies and programmes that will stimulate domestic, Regional and Global trade, private sector investment facilitation, and industry development. MTI advises Government on trade, Special Economic Zones, Regional and Global Trade Integration, Standards and Quality Infrastructure, SME’s and Private sector development.
The core functions of the Ministry are summarised as follows:

Coordinate and spearhead the implementation of the National Trade, Industrial Policy and Strategy.

Provide policy guidance and supervision to its agencies/departments for efficient and effective service delivery to the citizens of the Sierra Leone.

Coordinate the development of Trade Support Programme that reflects the policy objectives of the National Development Plan of Government.

Coordinate policy formulation and implementation for effective Trade facilitation, strengthening private sector cooperation, enhanced trade statistics and data management, as well as ensuring a favourable balance of trade.

Liaise with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to provide an enabling environment for the ease of doing business, Investment promotion and private sector development.

Engage Private Sector operatives, analyse, and monitor of retail price Indices, Stock levels, availability, and expiry dates of essential commodities in trade.

Coordinate the establishment of Special Economic Zones in Regions with Comparative advantage to initiate economic centers for youth employment and economic growth.

Facilitate the establishment of an International Trade Hub (Koindu) in the Mano River region.
The Ministry liaise with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to provide an enabling environment for the Private Sector to thrive and has following directorates has the following directorates:

The MTI has oversight responsibilities for the following institutions: Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA); Produce Monitoring Board (PMB); Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA); Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB); Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDA); Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Company (SLPMC); Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC); Cooperatives (Coop); Sierra Leone Local Content Agency (SLLCA); Sierra Leone Business Forum (SLBF)
