ANTI CORRUPTION COMMISSION (ACC)
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was established in 2000 by an Act of Parliament, as an institution charged with the responsibility of fighting corruption in Sierra Leone. The Anti-Corruption Act of 2000 which established the ACC has now been repealed by Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 as amended in 2019.
The Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner are appointed by the President subject to the approval and confirmation of Parliament. The Commission reports to the President and the people of Sierra Leone. It is an autonomous body with powers to prevent, investigate and prosecute cases of corruption and corrupt practices by public officials and offices and private individuals.
With a vision of a corrupt free Sierra Leone, the ACC leads the fight against corruption through public education, prevention, and prosecution. The head of the Commission is the Commissioner who is assisted by a Deputy Commissioner. It carries out its mandate through the following directorates: Administration, Operations, Internal Audit, Finance, Public Education and Outreach, Prevention, Intelligence and Investigation, Prosecution and Human Resource. In addition, it has specialised Units such as the Asset Declaration Unit, Project and Grievance Redress Mechanism and the National Anti-Corruption Strategy Secretariat.
The commission has offices in the South, East, North-East, and North-West regions of the country.
