THE TERTIARY EDUCATION COMMISSION (TEC)
The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) is the regulatory body responsible for the oversight and coordination of tertiary education in Sierra Leone. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 2001 to among other things, advise Government on tertiary education and to provide an institutional liaison with Government and other Stakeholder organization offering assistance in the tertiary education sector and to ensure parity of the product of tertiary education institutions.
The main functions of the TEC include:
Accreditation and quality assurance: The TEC is responsible for accrediting all tertiary education institutions in Sierra Leone and ensuring that they meet the required standards for quality and relevance. This involves conducting regular inspections and assessments of institutions and their programs and making recommendations for improvement where necessary.
Policy development and implementation: The TEC is responsible for developing and implementing policies and regulations related to tertiary education in Sierra Leone. This includes working with government ministries, other regulatory bodies and tertiary education institutions themselves to ensure that policies are aligned with national development goals and meet the needs of students and the broader community.

To ensure the orderly development of a well-coordinated and productive university system that will guarantee quality and relevant education for national development and global competitiveness.
Vision
To be a dynamic regulatory agency acting as a catalyst for positive change and innovation for the delivery of quality university education in Sierra Leone
Goals
Attainment of a stable and crisis-free University System. To work with Sierra Leone Universities to achieve full accreditation status for at least 80% of the academic programmes.
