The Republic of Sierra Leone and the Peoples’ Republic of China has had a long standing diplomatic and trade relationship.
Over the years, China has been providing support to the Government of Sierra Leone in terms of direct grants through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to various initiatives including the construction of Government buildings as well as roads.
Major infrastructural projects completed by the Chinese over the years include the multi-purpose national stadium, Youyi building, the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, additional offices for the Sierra Leone Parliament, Grafton-Jui road and a 100-bed China Sierra Leone friendship hospital at Jui.
In recent years, private Chinese investment in Sierra Leone has increased significantly with the investments in the mining sector including the Tonkolili Mines, the Bintumani Hotel complex and the construction of several roads including the Wilkinson Road, Spur Road, the Wellington- Masiaka toll road and the Youyi highway.
