THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION
The UK Department for International Development (DFID) was established 1997 to administer United Kingdom’s overseas development aid especially to commonwealth nations like Sierra Leone. In 2002, the then Secretary of International Development who was overseeing the activities of DFID signed an MOU with the newly elected President to support Sierra Leones’s fight against poverty reduction, recover from the civil conflict, build democratic and governance institutions as well as creating the enabling environment for private sector to strive.
Over the last 10 years up until end December 2019, the United Kingdom provided an estimated $1.65 billion to support successive Governments implement their national development priorities.
In September 2020, DFID was closed and merged with Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to create the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
In 2022, the FCDO provided an estimated $40.38 million in grants to fund various projects in Sierra Leone.
