The Government of Ireland logo IRISH AID SIERRA LEONE

The Ireland started bilateral aid programmes in Sierra Leone in 2005 through IRISH AID and has since contributed immensely to the development process of the Country with specific focus on reducing gender inequality, improving democratic good governance and promoting human rights. This is done through strengthening government systems and civil society organizations.

A five-year Ireland in Sierra Leone Mission strategy 2019-2023 was published in 2019 and forms the basis for Irish Aid support in the country for the ensuing years. This strategy encompasses the strategic priorities of Sierra Leone and represents Irish Aid’s commitment to helping Sierra Leone meet its medium-term targets as indicated in the national development plan.

The Irish Aid in 2022 provided an estimated $ 20.24 million in grants to support various projects in Sierra Leone.
