THE WORLD BANK
The World Bank is a major development partner to Sierra Leone supporting projects in various sectors ranging from Agriculture, Education, Roads and Energy. The World Bank also provides direct budget support to Sierra Leone. Since 2013, the World Bank has provided an estimated $1.3 Billion for the implementation of both national and regional projects to support Sierra Leone’s development efforts with a mixture of grants and concessional loans.
In 2023, the World Bank provided an estimated $215.85 million to support various sectors of the MTNDP, representing a decrease of 0.68 percent from its 2022 level of $217.33 million. Of this amount, 69.34 percent ($149.67 million) was provided as project support whilst 30.66 percent ($66.18 million) was dedicated to direct budget support. Moreover most of the total support in 2023 (91.60 percent) was provided as grants with just about 8.40 percent provided as loans.
