THE WORLD BANK
The World Bank Group which comprise of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Cooperation (IFC), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the Multilateral Insurance Guarantee Agency (MIGA) partner with Governments, international Public Institutions and Non-Governmental Organisations to reduce poverty, increase shared prosperity, and promoting sustainable development.
The World Bank started operations in Sierra Leone in 1962 supporting projects ranging from Public Financial Management, Agriculture, Education, Roads, Energy, Health, Transport, Mining, Fisheries, ICT and Social Protection. Over the last 10 years, World Bank has provided an estimated $708 million to support effective implementation of Sierra Leone’s Poverty Reduction Strategies (PRSPs) and now the Medium-Term National Development Plan. The World Bank is one of the four partners that provides direct budget support to Sierra Leone within the Multi-Donor Budget Support framework.
In 2022, the World Bank provided an estimated $226.11 million to support various projects in Sierra Leone.
