THE INTERNATIONAL FUND FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT (IFAD)
IFAD is a specialized United Nations agency dedicated fighting hunger and poverty in rural areas of developing countries. The International Fund for Agricultural Development is an international financial institution and a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries
IFAD-supported projects connect poor rural people to markets and services so they can produce more and earn more. They help transform rural communities economically and socially, and promote gender equality and inclusiveness. Projects are country-owned, and designed with input from rural people themselves.
IFAD is one of the key partners supporting the Government of Sierra Leone to support agriculture, rural finance and local development.

IFAD in 2022 provided an estimated $6.16 million grants and loans to support various projects implementation in Sierra Leone. The funds include $3.6 million in grants and $2.55 million as loan respectively.

IFAD country strategy for the period 2020-2025 focuses on improving living standards and food security of rural populations through increased incomes, job creation and climate resilience for the rural men and women, with particular emphasis on youth.
