 INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION FOR MIGRATION (IOM)
The IOM Sierra Leone was established in 2001 with headquarters in Freetown and a sub-Office in the Northern district town of Kambia. IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners.
The IOM has been supporting the Government and people of Sierra Leone in various areas in the field of international migration. Since its inception, IOM Sierra Leone in close partnership with relevant line ministries has been engaged in programming centered on the reintegration of refugees, government capacity building, community stability and social cohesion, counter-trafficking, diaspora engagement, reparations of war victims, and livelihoods training activities.
MISSION
To help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems, and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.
MANDATE
To provide special assistance for migrants, help countries develop specific services, and search for practical solutions on all aspects of migration.
It also provides humanitarian assistance to migrants in need. Its general goal is to ensure that no migrant is left alone.
VISION
Saving Lives and Responding to Humanitarian Needs. Strengthening Preparedness and Reducing Disaster Risk. Addressing Drivers and Long-Term Impacts of Crises.
IOM in 2022 provided an estimated $0.38 million of core resources and $3.31 million of tracked resources respectively as support to the implementation of various projects in Sierra Leone.
