COOPI was founded in 1965 by Father Barbieri and operating in Sierra Leone in 1967. After the civil war ended in 2002, COOPI supported projects to reintegrate ex-combatants by providing psycho-social assistance and reintegration for children, women victims of violence and mutilated soldiers.
Post Ebola in 2015, COOPI worked closely with key stakeholders to support Ebola victims with a focus on the orphans and widows.
Currently COOPI programmes targets food insecure communities and provide seeds and other agricultural inputs, training women on cultivation of vegetables as well as on personal hygiene. In addition, COOPI provides support for women's rights and development, with a particular emphasis on access to land.
