WELT HUNGER HILFE SIERRA LEONE
Welthungerhilfe is a German NGO without political or religious affiliation and has been operating Sierra Leone since 1962.
In general, Welthungerhilfe works local government, civil society and the private sector to support communities to improve their food and nutrition security. This includes improving and diversifying agriculture, nutrition training, better access to water, sanitation and improved hygiene practices and providing training for young people to help them generate income.
In Sierra Leone, Welthungerhilfe is working with smallholder farmers in the Kono, Kailahun and Koinadugu districts to improve the food and nutrition security and income of vulnerable households. The project supports the value chain, such as planting, harvesting, processing, and marketing, for small-scale farmers growing coffee, cocoa and cashew nut. In addition, they support young people to rehabilitate degraded agricultural land, improve productivity and gain a better price for their coffee and cocoa beans through training in improved processing practices.
