ChildFund International is an organization working toward a world where every child is free to live at their fullest potential, no matter where they are from or what challenges they face. ChildFund started operating in Sierra Leone in 1985 focusing on health and nutritional needs of pregnant women, mothers and new born. The support provided ranges from malnutrition, birth complications, malaria and other conditions causing the deaths of millions of children under the age of 5.

KEY AREAS OF INTERVENTION

In Sierra Leone, ChildFund’s program design seeks to target deprived, excluded and vulnerable children/youths between 0 – 24 years. The organization uses a unique life stage approach to guide its programming; each life stage is geared towards the specific needs of that age cohort.

 

Life stage 1: 0 – 5 years. The desired outcome is: Healthy and secured infants. key interventions include: Maternal and Early Child Health Programs, Early Childhood Development including Pre-schools, Parenting Education and Family Economic Empowerment programs for Caregivers (Caregiver livelihood security).

 

Life stage 2: 6 - 14 years. The desired outcome is:Educated and Confident Children. key Interventions include: Increasing access to improved quality and inclusive child friendly education especially for girls, quality learning outcomes, ensuring protection in Schools and promoting Child and adolescent Agencies (structures).

 

Life Stage 3: 15 – 24 years. The desired outcome is: Skilled and involved young adults. key interventions include: Livelihood & skills training, life skills for well-being, Youth Leadership & Civic Engagement and Sexual Reproductive Health programs for adolescent/youths in the country.
