WOMEN'S NETWORK FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILTY (WoNES)

The Women’s Network for Environmental Sustainability (WoNES) is a registered non-governmental organization that is non-partisan and development oriented, founded by a team of committed female Sierra Leonean professionals. Its establishment was prompted by the realization that as a country we are constantly faced with the alarming effects of environmental degradation/climate change in Sierra Leone and its negative impact on communities, especially the women. Women in Sierra Leone, especially the rural women, are considered the major providers and suffer the most, yet their voices are not heard in the planning, policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of environmental issues in Sierra Leone.

However, WoNES generally work in the rural areas taking into consideration environmental and climate change issues that impact on health; good governance; public awareness and perception; stakeholder engagement; domestic energy; industrial energy; waste management and disposal; water resources management and; land use management among others.
